Battery Park City
Built upon the dirt and gravel excavated from the construction of the World Trade Center, Battery Park City is Manhattan's only planned community. Stretching from Pier A to Chambers Street, the neighborhood, constructed to the tune of $4 billion sits in the shadows of the World Financial Center, home to Merrill Lynch, American Express and Dow Jones.
Thirty-five acres of the 92-acre neighborhood is open green space, which is a rarity in the lower half of Manhattan. And unlike its neighbor, the Financial District, it includes a thriving residential community, mixed with plenty of retail and commercial space.
Best way to end an exhaustive day of sightseeing and shopping is by taking a leisurely stroll by the neighborhood's waterfront, which sits on the Hudson River.
Located near the Battery Park City promenade is the Embassy Suites Hotel New York City which is near many local restaurants and a 15-screen cinema. Located right on the edge of the Financial District is the 38-floor New York Marriott Financial Center.
