Broadway

Don't let the terms Broadway and Off-Broadway fool you, most Broadway theaters are not located directly on Broadway. Most occupy the side streets from W 53rd and W 40th street, and extends between Sixth to Eighth avenues. Broadway, Off-Broadway and even Off-Off Broadway are not meant to represent geographically location, instead are used to describe the size of production and ticket price of shows.

Broadway theaters have long been draw for New York residents and tourist alike. Many have probably seen Broadway shows tour the country, but there is nothing like seeing Broadway on Broadway. The majestic Art Nouveau and Art Deco theaters are just as much part of the show as the production happening on stage. Theaters such as the American Airlines, Imperial, Music Box and Nederlander are some just some of the many Broadway theaters. Some of the Off-Broadway theaters such as Bowerie Lane and Radio City Music Hall are equally as impressive.

If you know when you are planning to visit New York, you can purchase tickets in advanced. Ticketmaster (http://www.ticketmaster.com) has tickets available for many of the Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. If staying in a hotel in Manhattan with concierge service, they can usually help you obtain tickets to some of Broadway's hottest shows. The concierge at hotels near times square are often better at helping you obtain that elusive ticket.

However, Broadway's best kept secret is the TKTS Booth in Times Square. The booth is located right outside the Marriott Marquis located on Broadway and Eighth Avenue. Day-of tickets are usually discounted from 25 to 50 percent of the ticket's face value. Hours of operation are 3 - 8 p.m. for evening performances, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. for Wednesday and Saturday matinees and from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday for all performance. With performances usually happening eight times a week, if you cannot catch it the day you'd like, there is always the next.
