Park Slope
Park Slope is a neighborhood located in the western part of Brooklyn, NY. The neighborhood is the home to over 62,000 people. It is a neighborhood enriched with a lot of history and many popular venues to enjoy a pleasant evening out on the town.
Before Park Slope existed the land was occupied by Native Americans and would later be populated by the Dutch, where they used the area for framing. The region also served as the starting point for the Battle of Long Island in August 1776 during the American Revolutionary War. One very fun and intriguing part of Park Slope history is that it was from 1879- 1889 the home of the Brooklyn Atlantics, which would later be called the Brooklyn Dodgers. Park Slope was the home of the Brooklyn Atlantics until the fire destroyed their field and the team was forced to move to Ridgewood, Queens. What perhaps is the saddest part of history regarding the neighborhood is the crash of United Flight 826. Two planes were not able to avoid flying into each other instantly killing all but one of the 135 passengers on board on December 16, 1960. The lone survivor would later lose the fight for his life due to the injuries suffered from the accident.
