Theater District

It's not hard to guess what's in the Theater District of Manhattan. Broadway is the heart and center of this area which is doted with plenty of Broadway and Off Broadway theaters. The bright lights of Times Square also make up this colorful area. The district stretches from 42nd Street until 53rd Street.

Contrary to popular belief most Broadway theaters are not on the actually avenue of Broadway, most are located on the side streets that intersect the avenue. But the portion of Broadway that is located in the district is affectionately dubbed The Great White Way because of all the bright lights that illuminate it.

Before catching your favorite Broadway show, you probably make want to have a quick dinner. Name Best Pre- and Post-Theater Bar by New York magazine Blue Fin (212-918-1400), 1567 Broadway, is definitely a good choice for a thirst quenching intermission. While you can entertain your pallet at DB Bistro Moderne (212-391-2400), 55 W 44th St., which was named Best Post-Theater Dining.

To be close to the bright lights consider staying near the area. The Ameritania Hotel, with its modern décor with unique twists, is in the area and close to the Museum of Modern Art as well as the Ed Sullivan Theater. The Dream hopes you relax enough that dreaming is all you do at the hotel. It is housed in a 1895 Beaux-Arts buildling, which includes a spa, rooftop lounge, upscale restaurant and modern amenities.
