TriBeCa

TriBeCa, which stands for Triangle Below Canal, was once an industrial district, but has quickly become the trendiest places to live and visit in Manhattan. During the 1960s and ‘70s the area was home to artists fleeing SoHo's quickly rising prices. But like it's chic neighbor, it too has become a place for the hip and wealthy to live.

The neighborhood is home to the TriBeCa Film Festival and festival founder Robert De Niro. Because of its industrial past, many of the residential buildings and hotels are housed in former warehouses and factories. Although extensively damaged by the September 11 attacks, the area has quickly bounced back.

The area is home to many notable restaurants, including the world-famous Nobu (212-219-0500), 105 Hudson St., where you'll pay a hefty price to dine on superb sushi and sit in the company of the rich and famous. Chanterelle (212-966-6960), 2 Harrison St., is called a New York-must when it comes to fine dining.

As the area becomes more touristy, hotels have started to sprout up. The Tribeca Grand Hotel has 203 guestrooms with the very best amenities to make you feel right at home. During the TriBeCa Film Festival, the hotel's screening room often used for movie premieres. The Holiday Inn Manhattan Downtown may not be located directly in the neighborhood, but offers great accommodations as prices rarely seen in Manhattan hotels.
