Radio City Music Hall Guide from New York Hotels
Nicknamed as the "Showplace of the Nation", Radio City Music Hall was once the leading tourist destination of the city. Located in the famous Theater District, this entertainment spot was themed by Roxy Rothafel in 1932. The hall has witnessed some of the best performances of all time.
Radio City Music Hall's building was given a New York landmark status in 1978. The building still has gold leaf ceilings and grand 10-yard wide French chandeliers worth your sight. Those who take a walking tour will get to meet the world famous Rockettes, who high kick their way across the Radio City stage.
The most interesting thing about this hall is that their Great Stage had such an advanced system of elevators that the U.S. Navy copied the hydraulics in constructing World War II aircraft carriers. Another notable thing is the Music Hall's Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ which is the largest pipe ever built for a theater.
Other New York attractions in the neighborhood include Rockefeller Center, Channel Gardens, the Museum of Television and Radio, and the Museum of Modern Art. Fashionable Fifth Avenue is also located nearby.
For some of the best sizzling steaks in town go over to Ruth's Chris Steak House (212-245-9600) where the wine list is extensive and the crowd lush. The average cost of meal is around $40. 21 Club is another swanky spot which serves the best martinis around.
