Halloween Parade

What began in 1973 as a house-to-house walk by a mask maker and puppeteer in Greenwich Village has become into one of the most popular parades into that city. The Village's Halloween Parade is where fantasy becomes reality as thousands take to the streets to put on an unforgettable show.

Imagination and artistry is the core of this parade which has become such an enormous part of city life. The parade is all about participation. If you are in costume, just arrive at the parade's line-up at Sixth Avenue, between Spring and Broome Streets. If you don't have a costume, you can always volunteer to carry some of the enormous puppets that delight spectators.

If you are just looking to catch a glimpse of the spectacle, stand along Sixth Avenue, anywhere from Spring Street until 21st Street. The areas between Bleeker and 14th Street are the most crowded, so arrive early. The parade starts at 7 p.m. and goes on until about 10:30 p.m.
