West Indian Parade and Carnival
During Labor Day the streets of Manhattan come alive with the warm Caribbean beats of the West Indian Parade and Carnival. Millions of people attend the event every year to join in the festivities. Steel-drum bands, colorful costumes and rhythmic beats take over and get the crowds cheering and dancing along the parade route.
What started in 1920 as a small gathering has exploded into a worldwide event that is as joyous and festive as the Caribbean carnivals it takes after.
