Cheap Hotels in New York
An affordable stay at New York's cheap hotels
There are many cheap places in New York that you can stay at. The only thing is that they may not be super clean or have in-suite bathrooms. Most of these hotels are 1 or 2 star hotels that offer minimum amenities. If you are on a budget or plan to stay for long, start comparing the various cheap hotels scattered all over town.
The Continental Hostel is a 1 star backpacker hostel located one half mile from Central Park and nearly three miles from Times Square. At this spot you can relax in the lounge or try your hand at billiards and other games. The hotel provides internet and has a nice garden area where you can sit in the evening and enjoy the breeze. You will have to carry cash as the Continental does not accept credit cards. There is a lot you can do at Central Park. Stroll around, see the wildlife, watch a play or just people watch. The West 96th Street subway station is located two blocks away.
But if you find the Continental full, a good option would be the one-star West End Studios & Hostel. The location is good and the rates are a nice draw. The neighborhood is considered trendy due to the student population from Columbia University. The rooms are basic with no phones or private washrooms. This no frills, no thrills place is popular amongst the students and budget travelers because it offers a nice New York experience. The subway is two blocks while two parks, several restaurants, eateries, and shops are within a short walk. Take the subway at 103rd and Broadway to see more of New York.
Located in nearby New Jersey, the two-star Park Avenue Hotel will be a good choice due to its nice location and warm and friendly service. The rooms were renovated in 2005 and the hotel offers a clean and comfortable stay for the budget traveler. The only downside here is that there are no in-suite wash rooms. You will have to share the baths and may not always find them clean. NYC Ferry is only minutes walk from here, Newark Airport is 13 miles away while the Rockefeller Center is 5 miles. Step out of the hotel and hop on the bus to Midtown, the commercial and theater district of New York or take a ferry to Manhattan or Queens.
Columbus Studios Hostel is housed in a turn-of-the-century building and was renovated in 2003. With a 24-hour front desk, a sitting lobby with television and microwave oven, free internet and proximity to famous New York attractions this hostel is a nice choice for a budget stay. The bathrooms here are shared, but you will find a sink in the bedroom. Most rooms are done in pastel colors and have bunk beds. Unfortunately, this hotel will not give you a room if you are a New York or New Jersey resident.
