Museum of Modern Art Guide from New York Hotels
If you happen to be in southern end of Central Park, pay a visit to the Museum of Modern Art. This New York museum started out in 1929 as an educational institution and has since gone through various changes and facelifts. The art collection spans various types of media and genres.
The permanent collection of this museum includes works by Matisse, Picasso and Van Gogh. You can find more than 100,000 oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings here. The library contains 19,000 films and four million film stills, 140,000 books, artist books, and periodicals. Smart travelers may want to go on Fridays when admission is free.
MoMa offers nice drinking and dining options. The Modern (212-333-1220) will have you going back to the museum, while Terrace 5 lends fantastic views of the nearby sculpture garden and Café 2 is like a Roman cantine that serves a wide choice of seasonal Italian foods. When you feel like a sophisticated martini, step into the swanky 21 Club and join the beautiful crowd in jackets and ties.
Famous New York attractions located in the neighborhood are Museum of Television and Radio, Trump Tower, St. Patrick's Cathedral and The Villard Houses at the New York Plaza Hotel.
Discerning travelers will enjoy The Peninsula New York, located on chic Fifth Avenue and 55th Street. Museum lovers will like Park Central New York Hotel, a historic property located on 870 7th Ave. where you can use the gym and enjoy bistro-style dining.
