Many department stores have been located on or near Manhattan‘s Herald Square, but the only one that still calls it home today is Macy’s. Dubbed the largest department store in the world, this is not your average Macy’s. Since 1902 the flagship store has occupied the almost entire block and within contains everything you are probably looking for at a good bargain, especially during one-day sales and holidays.

The store has 198,500 meters square of selling space, making it an enormous store to tackle. Macy’s has made it easier by breaking up all the departments into mini-stores within this gigantic store. Personal shoppers are also available to patrons free of charge.

Gimbels was once a famous department store located on Herald Square as well and Macy’s rival. Now in the space it once occupied you can find Manhattan Mall. In it you can find your standard stores like Victoria’s Secret, Sunglass Hut, Nine West and JC Penny.
