Traveling to New York
With three major airports serving New York City, flights are readily available through most airlines. John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport are both located in Queens, with LaGuardia being considerably closer to Manhattan. Newark Liberty International Airport is located in Newark, N.J., but is only 15 miles from New York City.
If you are not being picked up from the airport, taxis are readily available outside airport terminals. At JFK, you are charged a flat rate of $45, plus tolls. At LaGuardia is should cost you no more than $30, plus tolls. While at Newark you must give the dispatcher the address where you are going to and you will be quoted. Costs range from $70-$75, plus tolls and a $15 surcharge.
The cheapest way to get into the city is via public transportation. At LaGuardia buses will take you directly to the subway station for only $2 and the transfer is free if you have a MetroCard. At JFK a free shuttle bus will take you directly to the subway station where it will only cost you $2 to get into the city. Another option is using the airport's AirTrain for $5 each way which will connect you to various subway stations and the Long Island Railroad.
